Care Guide for Mohair & Alpaca Knitwear
Last updated: August 26, 2026
To ensure your handmade Mohair and Alpaca knitwear remains soft, beautiful, and holds its shape for years to come, please follow our detailed care guidelines below.
1. Washing Instructions
Method: Hand wash only, separately, in lukewarm water (maximum 30°C / 86°F).
Detergent: Use a mild wool detergent formulated without enzymes or optical brighteners.
Technique: Gently move the garment back and forth in the water. Do not rub, scrub, or squeeze the knitwear, and avoid soaking it for long periods.
Rinsing: Rinse thoroughly with water of the same temperature until the water runs completely clear.
2. Excess Water Removal
Option A: Use a short, light centrifugation cycle (maximum 800 rpm) only if your machine can perform a spin cycle without adding new cold water.
Option B: Lay the sweater on a dry, clean towel, roll it up, and gently press the water out. Never twist or wring delicate fibers.
3. Drying
Placement: Lay the sweater completely flat on a horizontal surface (such as a drying rack covered with a towel or a warm floor) to maintain its original shape.
Avoid: Do not hang the garment to dry, do not tumble dry, and keep it away from direct sunlight or direct heat sources.
Airflow: Ensure good air circulation around the sweater for a slow, natural drying process.
4. Ironing & Maintenance
Ironing: It is generally recommended to avoid ironing these delicate natural fibers. To easily remove wrinkles, use light steam from a distance or simply air the garment out.
Pro Tip: Often, hanging or airing the sweater outdoors in fresh air is sufficient to refresh it, drastically reducing the need for frequent washing.
